Welding Rules

Apr. 24, 2026

Safety First (PPE & Environment): Always wear proper PPE (helmet, gloves, fire-resistant clothing) and ensure the area is free from fire hazards. Follow the 35-foot rule, moving combustible materials at least 35 feet away from the welding area.

Surface Preparation: Clean all metal surfaces thoroughly to remove rust, paint, moisture, and mill scale. A clean joint ensures a high-quality, solid weld.

Ensure Visibility: You cannot produce a good weld if you cannot see the weld pool. Maintain a clear view of your arc and the workpiece.

Comfort and Stability: Locate a comfortable position to maintain stability. A stable body and hands allow for better control over the welding technique.

Maintain Equipment: Regularly check your welding machine and cables for damage. An improperly running machine produces inferior welds.

Weld Level: Always attempt to weld on a level plane to prevent weld metal from sagging.

Proper Technique (Bottom Up): When working on vertical joints, weld from the bottom up to ensure proper fusion and support.

Focus and Concentration: Keep your focus on the arc and the molten pool to avoid defects and ensure safety.
